چکیده
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the low energy extracorporeal shock waves therapy (ESWT) associated with physical therapy in the treatment of chronic muscle injuries classified as grades 2 and 3 in the lower limbs of amateur athletes. METHODS Eight athletes presenting with lower limb muscle injury for more than three weeks were treated with physiotherapy and ESWT. We evaluated the following parameters during treatment: palpable gap, muscle strength, pain, and Tegner score, as well as ultrasound image features and the ability to return to sports practice. RESULTS The average time of the first evaluation of the injury was 8.75 weeks. All patients presented muscle strength grade V after eight weeks. The pain score evolved from 5.75 to 0.5 points of the visual analogue scale (VAS), at the end of the treatment. The Tegner score after treatment was six points on average. Patients returned to sports practice after 8.14 weeks. CONCLUSION ESWT associated with physical therapy proved to be effective to treat long-term muscle injury, with good performance and the ability to return to sport practice for all patients. Level of Evidence IV, Case Series, Prospective Study.

Effect of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy Versus Stretching in the Treatment of Athletes With Chronic Plantar Fasciitis
Purpose: Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is a relatively new method in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders such as plantar fasciitis. This study aimed to compare two methods of treatment with extracorporeal shockwave and stretching in athletes with chronic plantar fasciitis. Methods: The study was a randomized clinical trial. A total of 30 male athletes with chronic plantar fasc...

Extracorporeal shock waves are defined as a sequence of acoustic pulses characterised by a fast pressure rise to over 100 MPa, followed by a decrease to normal pressure within a few microseconds. In the 1980s, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) was first used for the treatment of urolithiasis. Orthopaedists then began to use extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) to treat non-union ...

BACKGROUND Morton’s Neuroma is a common condition, often requiring surgical intervention. The success rate for resolution of symptoms, without complications, is commonly reported to be 85%. Complications can include stump neuroma, adhesive neuritis, and chronic pain syndrome. Endoscopic decompression of the neuroma has been reported but there have been no randomized and blinded studies reported...
متن کاملto-treat sports injury
Patellar tendinopathy is a common and difficult-to-treat overuse injury of the patellar tendon with a very negative impact on the careers of many athletes. It appears to involve a failed healing process in the tendon – not inflammation – and has consequences for the treatment strategy. Rehabilitation programs are based on the principles of load reduction and an eccentric exercise program to imp...

A 15-month-old, spayed female, Bernese mountain dog was presented to the Institute of Small Animal Surgery at the University of Zurich because of chronic left forelimb lameness. The referring veterinarian diagnosed pain in the left shoulder region and had treated the dog with systemic non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and restricted exercise for a two-week period. The follow-up examination ...
